The Washington Capitals are getting a huge boost for their next game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Star center Nicklas Backstrom will make his return to the lineup.

This is outstanding news for the Capitals and for Backstrom. Backstrom had been dealing with hip issues for years. When he decided to go through with the surgery there was speculation that his career could be in jeopardy.

It took six months of recovery time and he's thirty five years old. Despite these obstacles, Backstrom has persevered and his presence in the lineup will really help the Capitals.

For years Backstrom has been an elite playmaking center for the Capitals. To have him back in the lineup for the second half of the season is huge and he can help the Capitals try and make the playoffs. No doubt Backstrom is excited to be back. He can also setup Alex Ovechkin for some goals as he continues his pursuit of the all time leader in career goals.

Even if Backstrom starts slow, the organization and his teammates have to be thrilled that he is back. It looks like Backstrom will return to a top six forward role and see time on the power play as well. All situations Backstrom is quite familiar with. Backstrom has been a critical part of this team for his entire career. In one-thousand-fifty-eight career games the Swedish centre has one-thousand-eleven career points.
