Two Western Conference teams aggressively pursuing Sean Monahan
The Montreal Canadiens are in the hunt for the playoffs, with a resurgent lineup, and with Martin St. Louis as bench boss. Martin St. Louis has turned the Canadiens organization around for the better, as they are 12-11-2 and 6th in a stacked Atlantic Division.
A veteran whose also been thriving under St. Louis is Sean Monahan who the Calgary Flames traded to the Montreal Canadiens in the off-season, along with a 2025 Conditional 1st round pick. Monahan was viewed as entirely a cap dump, so the Flames could acquire Nazem Kadri, but now it appears Monahan could help the Habs add even more assets at the deadline.
According to Danny Dube there are teams who could use Monahan's talents in a secondary role:
«Teams with a top line that produces 40% of their scoring are going to want a guy like him (Monahan) who can bring that 200-foot game and secondary scoring,» said Dubé on Monahan's attractiveness as an asset. » I'll tell you who will be interested. Dallas, for sure. Edmonton, for sure. Then you look around the league at Colorado, they have one line working right now as well.»
Dube expanded upon the conversation, with Marco D'amico, stating the Canadiens have inquired about the Edmonton Oilers prospect Xavier Bourgalt who would be a return for Monahan.
If so, the value for the veteran center stays steady as the Canadiens will want to recoup their 2025 1st round pick lost to the Flames.
