The Vancouver Canucks continue to be very active in trade discussions. Today reports suggest that Vancouver has asked Oliver Ekman-Larsson to waive his no trade clause on multiple occasions. The thirty-one year old defenseman has four more years on his contract at $7.26 million per season. Ekman-Larsson might not be the same player he once was, but he can still add value to a team if he's put in the right situation.

First, Vancouver has to get Ekman-Larsson to approve a deal since he has a no movement clause in his contract. After that, you'd have to think Vancouver would even have to retain some salary in a move like this. If the Canucks have asked Ekman-Larsson to waive his no-trade clause, there must be NHL teams who are interested in his services. Ekman-Larsson does have the right to veto any trade if he does not want to relocate.

It seems imminent that the Canucks move out some players from their roster. The team has not played up to expectations, there was the whole debacle with Brock Boeser not playing last week, there have been rumors of Bo Horvat leaving, and now they're asking Ekman-Larsson to waive his no trade clause. Vancouver would certainly would like some more cap flexibility and to retool it's roster. It's not likely that Vancouver goes into a full rebuild mode. They have Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes and the players are a big part of Vancouver's future. Look for the Canucks to be aggressive and move players out after a disappointing start to the season.
