Western Conference Team called out by management, told the players are the problem
The NHL season is only two weeks old and multiple teams are already considering significant changes to their rosters. The Vancouver Canucks have not had the start to the season they were hoping for. They lost there first seven games of the season. Quinn Hughes, Brock Boeser, Riley Stillman, and Curtis Lazar are all on injured reserve. Vancouver already replaced former coach Travis Green with Bruce Boudreau. You might think coaching isn't the issue with his club, and Canucks management agrees with you.
What can the Canucks do to turn things around? NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that management sent a stern message to the players. If things don't turn around quickly changes would be coming.
@FriedgeHNIC saying the players were warned if things didn't turn around and quickly changes were coming to the roster. I get the feeling Miller and Pearson dropping the gloves so early in Seattle was a sign from the players that they got the message loud and clear.
The message was so far well received. On Thursday night in Seattle, Vancouver veteran forwards Tanner Pearson and JT miller both fought in the early stages of the first period. This fired up the Canucks and they beat their new rivals five to four for their first victory of the season. Perhaps this was just the message the Canucks needed to get their season turned around. The Canucks also put on a good show Saturday beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 on home ice.
When teams have very poor starts to the season it can be very difficult to overcome. Vancouver needs to continue to have some passion in their games and put more wins on the board. Otherwise their hopes of making the playoffs could dwindle quickly.
