With an early exit from the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Boston Bruins started their summer with some bold decisions. First with the firing of Head Coach Bruce Cassidy. With that firing complete the Bruins turned their attention to their off season roster construction.
Last season the Bruins signed veteran Nick Foligno to a 2-year deal with a $3,800,000 cap hit. Unfortunately that move didn't work out the way the Bruins had hoped. Foligno put up the worst statistical year of his career.
Rumours had circled that the Bruins were contemplating buying out the final year of Foligno's deal, but it appears they've finally decided against it.
According to Hockey Insider Joe Haggerty, Boston aren't expected to do that anymore. Foligno will be a free agent at the end of next year and it appears the Bruins don't want to take on the extra year of cap penalty.
Foligno last season put up only 2G and 11A in 64 NHL games this season while battling injury. It seems the Bruins are banking on Foligno to bounce back next season and give them a solid player or potentially a good return come the trade deadline if they fall out of the playoffs.
