While most people were still enjoying time with their families over the holidays, the NHL decided to investigate the Dallas Stars for potentially breaching the league's collective bargaining agreement with players.
While the investigation continues, TSN NHL insider Darren Dreger has confirmed the Dallas Stars' fate.
According to Darren Dreger, the Stars will indeed be fined for holding an optional practice on Dec. 26, which is a direct violation of the CBA between the NHL and NHLPA.
While the amount of the fine is not yet known, the Toronto Maple Leafs were fined $100k in 2022 for breaching the CBA as the team had its players fly to St. Louis on Dec. 26 for a game that was taking place the next day.
As for the practice being "optional", the the NHL/NHLPA collective bargaining agreement is pretty clear about what activities can be held and when over the holidays.
December hasn't been a great month for the Dallas Stars as the team found out early this month that key player Tyler Seguin would miss the remainder of the season after undergoing hip surgery.
Now, the Stars are going to have to cough up what will likely be a sizeable chunk of change for either not reading, or ignoring CBA rules.
