Evgeny Kuznetsov Faces Devastating Setback in Russia Amid Mental Health and Injury Struggles
Evgeny Kuznetsov returned home to Russia this past season, but now his future is up in the air after his devastating personal issues have been revealed.
After a promising start to his return season in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg earlier this year, Evgeny Kuznetsov suffered a devastating long-term injury, and now, his future in his home league is up in the air.
Reports coming out of Russia have now revealed that Kuznetsov has suffered another concussion, and that could lead to the end of his 2024/25 campaign which started so well as he tallied 12 goals and 37 points in his first 38 games of the year.
«It turned out that Kuznetsov, who barely recovered from a concussion, received another concussion, the second one in a season. That's such a fatal injury... Rivals played hard with him. The next day, Evgeny felt worse, and he also had an acute respiratory viral infection. He was not put on the match with Spartak."
Unfortunately, it appears as though there's much more to this story, as a source close to the situation in Russia has noted that Kuznetsov fell sick due to symptoms with his concussion, even dealing with a bout of depression after his return to Russia.
To be honest, Kuzya even fell into depression from what happened to him after returning to Russia. He thought that he would be well received at home. But instead, he faced obstruction from fans and Internet users, as well as unclear refereeing, when blows to the head are not considered something outrageous. And then there were the illnesses
You have to be (with) the (hockey) club to understand the whole situation. But, according to my information, SKA will not terminate the contract with Kuznetsov, but will take care of his treatment.
At the same time, there is a possibility that the star forward will not play this season. However, they are fully counting on him in the future.
Despite some speculation that Kuznetsov would no longer play for SKA, the team appear committed to helping him through his latest concussion, as well as any issues that may have arisen away from the ice personally involving the star veteran.
Ultimately, this is a very tough situation for all those involved, as Kuznetsov's promising play has been overshadowed by the injuries he's suffered in 2024/25, so the hope is that he gets all the help he needs mentally and physically to get back to 100% and being the dominant player he can be in the KHL.
