Former Rangers defenseman and captain Jacob Trouba says he was threatened by the team ahead of his trade today.

The Rangers are just 4-6 over their last ten games and things do not appear to be trending in the right direction.

This is why general manager Chris Drury felt that it was time to make a move.

That move came this afternoon when he traded his captain to the Anaheim Ducks.

It was a big splash for sure, but since then even more information about the deal has come out that has some fans gasping in shock.

According to Trouba, the Rangers told him that if he did not accept one of the trades presented to them that he would be placed on waivers, which would have made him subject to going anywhere in the league.

The former Rangers captain clearly was upset by this, going so far as to call it a threat.

At the same time, the move appears to have fired him up.

He also said is is a 'rite of passage' to be fired at Madison Square Garden.

After all, the Rangers have a long history of trading their captains.

In fact, the last Rangers captain to not be traded by the team was Chris Drury himself, but instead of a trade he got bought out, which is arguably just as bad if not worse.

Trouba appeared in 364 regular-season games with the Rangers and was in the middle of serving his 3rd year as captain of the team.

He had 31 goals and 136 points in those games. However, this year he appeared completely checked out, mustering just 6 points, all assists, in 24 contests.

We will just have to see if his play improves in Anaheim or if this is the player he will be for the remainder of his career.
