A big question this season has been will the Minnesota Wild deal Marc-Andre Fleury ahead of the NHL's trade deadline, or hang on to him in the hopes of making the playoffs. We now have our answer.
According to Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman, Fleury will be spending the remainder of the 2023-24 season in Minnesota.
"One important development as we head towards the trade deadline: Minnesota has indicated it will not move Marc-Andre Fleury. They are happy to keep him."
Fleury, who is 39, may very well be playing his last season in the NHL. He's a free agent at the end of this season, and has said he will decide then whether to return or retire. In the meantime, Fleury himself had said he'd rather stay with the Wild then be dealt elsewhere.
"If we were last in the conference, maybe it'd be a little bit different. But this is my team. We've been battling together, right? I take pride in winning with this team. I want us to make the playoffs. That's my first priority. I think being in the hunt, it's fun, it's challenging. And I want to be here and see this team make the playoffs."
There was a time this season that it looked like the Minnesota Wild would be sellers at trade deadline. However, the team has turned things around recently, and are currently six points out of a wild card spot in the Western Conference.
