Despite getting the win, head coach Patrick Roy was livid with the New York Islanders last night after a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks

Most NHL coaches don't get angry with their team after a win. Most NHL coaches aren't Patrick Roy.

The living NHL legend was livid with the New York Islanders last night after the team managed to pull out a victory over the Chicago Blackhawks by a score of 5-4.

His issue? Wins have been rare for the Islanders this year, and despite being up 5-1 going into the second half of the third period, the team barely hung on as the Blackhawks got it to within one goal with just 10 seconds left in the game.

Patrick Roy, a former goaltender himself, unloaded on his team, telling reporters Isles' goaltender Ilya Sorokin had every right to be angry and should have let his teammates know it.

"I guess times have changed. Because in my day, if my team had done that to me, I would break a stick in that room. I would have been very upset to see my team playing like this in front of me. Ilya is a gentleman, he's a first-class person, but that was unacceptable. We talked about it this morning, to be stronger. Our goalie deserves more respect than this"

Roy added the Islanders simply stopped competing when they went up 5-1, and did nothing to protect the front of their own net.

"We can't play like this. It doesn't matter where we are or what the score [is], Up, or down, it doesn't matter. We got to be better in front of our net, protecting our goalie."

Roy is not one to hold back when he has something to say, including when his comments risk sparking tension with New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello.

But this was different. Roy is usually prone to shouting and being loud. Here, he was seething. Roy was legitimately upset with his players and wanted to make sure they heard it.

With the win, the Islanders now have a 12-12-7 record, and there's been plenty of speculation as to whether Roy will still have a job with the team when the current season ends.

However, that won't stop him from holding his players accountable, and speaking out when they mess up.,
