Today was another busy day for the waiver wire as three NHL teams elected to put players on waivers, with the goal of sending them to the AHL.
The New Jersey Devils placed defenseman Santeri Hatakka on waivers while the Sharks and Flyers waived forwards Colin White and Anthony Richard, respectively.
At the same time, Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Brandon Halverson, who was placed on waivers yesterday, has cleared and will report back to the Syracuse Crunch.
Perhaps the most significant of the three players on waivers today is Sharks forward Colin White, who was a first round draft pick of the Ottawa Senators back in 2015.
He has appeared in 323 career regular-season NHL games, putting up 44 goals and 113 points.
This season he has zero points in three games with San Jose, averaging less than 8 minutes of ice time in those contests.
Anthony Richard has made 15 appearances for the Flyers, recording 2 goals and 6 points while Santeri Hatakka never even got into a game for the Devils.
He has 4 points in 22 career NHL games split between the Devils and San Jose Sharks.
It should be interesting to see if any of these players get claimed off of waivers in the next 24 hours.
At this point, all three seem to be AHL level players but you never know what NHL GMs might see in them.
White in particular is a proven NHL veteran, and could potentially provide some leadership and depth to another team, so be sure to stay tuned to see if he sticks around the league or not.
