Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin Reveals His Plans To Sign Key Forward Long-Term
The Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin revealed his plans to sign a key forward long-term in a recent podcast intervention.
It's no secret that the trade sending J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers has been a massive shakeup in Vancouver's top six. Miller had been bringing steady offensive input for the past six seasons, and his departure leaves a big hole in the Canucks lineup.
Now, much more is expected from the team leaders such as Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser.
Elias Pettersson is on the first season of an eight-year $11,600,000 AAV contract, but Boeser is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
After three years valued at $6,650,000, Boeser will be able to ask for a significant raise and will hope to cash it in as soon as next season.
The Canucks must do all they can to make sure that the forward remains committed to the team long-term.
Allvin seems sure that both camps will reach a deal down the line. Here's what he said in a recent press conference:
"We continue to evaluate the situation. It takes two sides to make things work, and I have a lot of respect for Brock and his agent. We'll keep evaluating and see where things go, but I'm sure we'll find a solution at some point."
The GM is aware of what Boeser brings to the table, and it will have an impact on the negotiations:
"Scoring goals is the hardest thing in the league, so when you have a player who can do that, it's not easy to replace. That definitely factors into our thinking, but the financial side of things also plays a role."
Boeser is coming off a career-high 40-goal season, but like most of his teammates, has struggled to bring the same kind of performances this year, tallying only 34 points, including 17 goals, in 47 games.
