According to a new report from Elliotte Friedman, two players have been placed on waivers. Indeed, the Winnipeg Jets and the Montreal Canadiens made a move.
The Jets sent Daniel Torgersson on waivers with the purpose of contract termination, while the Montreal Canadiens sent the struggling goalie Cayden Primeau to the AHL.
Now, let's look at each of them.
Torgersson is a 22-year-old Swedish forward drafted 40th overall by the Jets in 2020. He spent the past four seasons in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose and hasn't made his NHL debut yet.
In 12 games this season, the 6-foot-3 forward hasn't scored a point and has a -6 rating.
As for Primeau, the 25-year-old goalie has been struggling in the past seasons, going back and forth between the AHL and the NHL since being drafted in the 7th round of the 2017 NHL Draft.
Unfortunately, he was never able to establish himself as a true full-time NHLer.
This season has been particularly hard for the goalie. In 11 games, he has an abysmal 4.70 goals against average as well as a 0.836 save percentage.
This decision has been a long time in the making for the Canadiens, as fans have been calling out Primeau for many years for his inconstancy.
However, he does have great potential, and with many teams looking to add depth between the pipes, it could be the end of his journey with the Montreal Canadiens.
Even if Primeau gets claimed on waivers, the Habs won't be in a tough spot. The team can rely on Samuel Montembeault, who's been performing well this season, and the young Jakub Dobes, who made his NHL debut today against the Florida Panthers.
The organization also has one of the best goalie prospects in the entire League: Jacob Fowler. He's been dominating the NCAA in the past two seasons, and is set to turn pro in the coming years.
