It was a tough day to be a member of Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship on Friday after losing to Latvia in what should have been a easy win for the perennial contenders.
To make matters worse, two players who many thought were shoo-ins to make Team Canada appear to have taken some satisfaction in the loss.
There's been a lot of talk about how roster choices had a major impact on Canada's loss to Latvia at the WJC, and Zayne Parekh and Carter Yakemchuk, two players who were overlooked, seem to agree.
Both have been liking social media posts that that included the score of Friday's game.
Carter Yakemchuk is the 7th overall pick in the latest NHL entry draft, selected by the Ottawa Senators and currently playing for the WHL's Calgary Hitmen. The 19-year-old defenceman has 12 goals and 29 points in 26 games this season.
Zayne Parekh, taken 9th overall by the Calgary Flames, is another defenceman with a big offensive upside. He has 11 goals and 36 points in 28 games with the Saginaw Spirit.
Both Parekh and Yakemchuk's shade on social media has been getting plenty of notice online, as roster choices were already a hot topic for Team Canada at the 2025 World Juniors. It was turned up to 11 following the loss to Latvia.
Team Canada has a break on Saturday, but is right back at it on Sunday with a game against Germany at a tournament that already saw a a 15-year-old Swiss forward make incredible history.
