Evander Kane breaks the code and gets 14 minutes in penalties after attacking downed Vegas player
Hockey's code is an unwritten set of rules that players have followed for years to keep themselves safe. It's a core of honour that often keeps players safe even when the referees won't. The rules are based around a mutual respect for one and other.
Unfortunately those rules don't always get followed. Tonight Evander Kane disregarded those rules completely as he saw an opportunity and took full advantage of it. With a downed Kegan Kolesar, Kane saw an opportunity to deliver multiple punches to a downed opponent.
Kane was lucky to not be ejected on the play and instead received a double minor for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct. However taking shots at a downed opponent likely won't go over well.
