New York Islanders Matt Martin decides to have a seat on Jordan Staal after big hit
Hockey is a physical game and open ice hits are commonplace at almost every single juncture of play, however what happened during game 2 between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Islanders may be one of the more bizarre scenarios seen in a while.
After Hurricanes Jordan Staal unloaded a shot, he collected his rebound and passed it to an open teammate. Moments later, Islanders Matt Martin comes in from behind Staal and cross checks him while appearing to leave his feet. Martin follows up by perching himself on top of Staal, resulting in Carolina drawing a penalty.
Matt Martin is a good hard-nosed player and he's assigned to do the job of agitating, but no matter what, you can't do that during a hockey game. Martin received a 2 minute minor on the play. Despite being shaken up Jordan Staal returned for the 2nd period.
