To win a Stanley Cup it takes sacrifice, hard work and a never say quit attitude. Unfortunately though, that sort of effort from one player isn't enough to get the job done. Last night the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 5-3, to close the gap even further in their Stanley Cup Finals series.
Late in the game Matthew Tkachuk was willing to do whatever it took to stop the puck from crossing the goal line. As Tkachuk made one of the best saves of the season, one of his teammates had thought he'd done enough and simply quit on the play.
This save appeared to give the Panthers life late in n the game and could have seen the team turn the puck up ice with a chance to tie the game. Instead after the initial play Oliver Ekman-Larsson is captured on camera completely giving up allowing Connor McDavid to retrieve the puck before eventually beating Tkachuk to give his team a two goal lead.
This is a perfect example of how winning a game takes a full team effort. This clip will surely be on repeat in the Panthers next video session. After such an incredible effort it is tough to see a player simply give up on his teammate like this.
The series shifts back to Edmonton for Game 6 on Friday night as the Panthers look to close out the series with their 3rd opportunity.
