The Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers just completed a blockbuster trade a week in advance of the trade deadline.
For some time now, Seth Jones has been in trade rumors, with the veteran blueliner reportedly wanting to go to a contending team.
Now he has gotten his wish as he has officially been moved to the Florida Panthers.
This news came just moments after NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that trade talks between the teams were heating up.
The Blackhawks received goaltender Spencer Knight and a first round draft pick in 2027 as compensation.
In order to make the deal work in terms of cap space, the Blackhawks had to retain 25% of Jones' contract.
Notably, Jones has five years left on his contract after this one.
The full details of the deal are as follows:
The Blackhawks receive Spencer Knight and a conditional 1st round pick in the 2027 NHL draft.
The condition is that if the Panthers do not have a pick in the first round of the 2026 draft, it slides to 2027.
The Panthers receive Seth Jones at a 7 million dollar cap hit with the Blackhawks retaining 2.5 million a season and a 4th round pick in the 2026 draft.
Jones has 7 goals and 27 points in 42 games this year for the Blackhawks. in his career he is up to 97 goals and 432 points in 839 games.
The 30-year-old will likely end his career with the Panthers now, as he has five years left on his deal after this one.
