Earlier tonight news surfaced courtesy of Frank Seravalli that the Edmonton Oilers were nearing a trade for a defender. The deal, which he claimed could be done ahead of training camp would bolster the team's defense. The Oilers backend took a significant hit after losing both Cody Ceci and Philip Broberg over the last week.
After some digging, Jesse Courville-Lynch, of The Mug on Instagram has shared that he has been told the Oilers targets are two Nashville Predators' defenders. He shared the following on his Instagram channel.
He then clarified further:
Both Fabbro and Tomasino are former first round picks for Nashville. In 56 games last season Fabbro scored 3 goals and added 10 assists. Tomasino played 41 games scoring 7 times and assisting on 13 more goals.
Tomasino is currently an unsigned restricted free agent while Fabbro has a cap hit of $2,500,000 and is entering the final year of his deal. It will be interesting to see if this deal comes together, as it would fill major needs for the Oilers.
