NHL Insider Frank Seravalli states a massive trade could go down before the 2024 Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers gets underway

We're a few days away from the opening of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers, but other teams around the NHL have bigger, more personal fish to fry. One of those is the Carolina Hurricanes, and one insider believes a massive trade could come before game 1 gets underway.

In his latest Rundown on Daily Faceoff, Frank Seravalli states the Hurricanes are itching to get a trade done involving 25-year-old forward Martin Necas.

"I wouldn't be shocked to see Marty Necas dealt before Game 1 of the Cup Final on Saturday."

Necas is a restricted free agent, and will almost certainly be getting a raise from the $3 million a year he's been making for the last three. However, Carolina seems intent on signing free agents Jake Guentzel and Seth Jarvis, which will leave little to no room for Necas's salary.

"The Carolina Hurricanes have a lot to figure out this offseason, one of which is decisions on their three big RFAs: Jack Drury, Seth Jarvis and Martin Necas."

Necas finished the 2023-24 seasons with 24 goals and 53 points. Landing him will likely cost a bundle, but it could very well be worth it in the long run.

"Why aren't any Rangers fans mentioning Martin Necas? He is a natural Center, RFA who wants to be a top line player. He is frustrated in Carolina and may want out. Of course the Rangers would have to trade with Carolina to get his RFA rights but I'm sure it could happen."
