Minnesota Wild make disrespectful decision about Marc-Andre Fleury
Marc-Andre Fleury is one of the greatest goaltenders of the modern era. Fleury is respected for everything he's done on the ice, as well as for the person he is off it. With Fleury entering what is expected to be the final year of his career, many expected the veteran to receive a heroes send off.
While Fleury has mostly received nothing but respect, today the Wild made a decision that has only been viewed as disrespectful. Tonight the Wild are in Pittsburgh, for what is expected to be Fleury's final time. Many expected for Fleury to suit up for the final time, but new head coach John Hynes had other plans.
John Hynes said going with Fleury in Boston and not Pittsburgh was just «part of the plan.» Same lineup as Saturday so Hunt in. No setback for Spurgeon, he said, just better for him to stay back and skate. #mnwild
When asked about this decision Fleury admitted he was obviously disappointed, but understood.
Asked if he was disappointed he's not playing tonight in Pittsburgh, Marc-Andre Fleury said «a little bit,» but he understands the decision. Said team is playing well and Gustavsson has «been awesome.» So the #mnwild veteran isn't upset about it
With Fleury being a consummate pro it's obvious he's not going to speak out against his new coach, but the fact that this is a topic of a discussion shows just how out of touch coaches can be. If there is any justice, Gustavsson will be pulled early and the Hockey Gods will allow Fleury to have his moment.
