The Boston Bruins made a roster move today, calling up forward Vinni Lettieri from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
The move comes ahead of the team's matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning, which is tomorrow in Boston.
Lettieri spoke to the media this afternoon after the call up, thanking his Providence teammates and the coaching staff for the help in earning the chance to play with the big squad.
That being said, Bruins fans are not happy with the move. It is no dispresect to Lettieri, but statistically speaking, he doesn't seem like the best player to get called up right now.
As many fans have pointed out, top prospect Fabian Lysell has been performing exceptionally well in the AHL lately, far better than Lettieri, so many think he deserves the chance instead.
Fans of the Bruins are not the only ones criticizing Don Sweeney lately either.
Today's move is just another example of this problem.
It should also be noted that Lettieri is not exactly a prospect. The 29-year-old was never drafted but has appeared in 129 career NHL games, most recently during last season where he made a career-high 46 appearances for the Minnesota Wild.
He has just 12 goals and 27 points in his NHL career.
Lysell on the other hand, was drafted 21st overall by the Bruins in 2021 and has been around a point-per-game player in the AHL for the last two seasons.
The Bruins have given him just one game in the NHL this season where he got just 11 minutes of ice time.
Fans of the team are starting to get tired of the fact that they never give their prospects a chance to play in the show.
Will the Bruins ever learn to give Lysell and their other top prospects a chance to contribute? Perhaps, but it will likely come after this season is already lost.
