NHL Legend Jeremy Roenick Blasts Connor Bedard After His Actions At the Winter Classic
Connor Bedard is one of the brightest young stars in the NHL, but according to Jeremy Roenick, he's got a lot to learn before becoming a star in the league.
Over the past 18 months, Connor Bedard has shown time and time again that he's a key piece of the NHL's future, despite some names in the media attacking him in recent times.
After those comments from former NHL official Tim Peel, he has now hosted a podcast with former NHL star Jeremy Roenick, who would take his own turn at calling out the former No. 1 overall pick.
The story stems from an incident at the recent Winter Classic, hosted at Wrigley Field, with Roenick complaining that out of all the players on the team, Bedard was the only one to not come over and talk to him.
All the players came up to me, [Chelios], and [Savard], except one, Roenick said. That was Connor Bedard If we don't have that respect to go up and fist bump, to say congratulations, how can you do it with your own teammates?
This statement is one that hasn't quite worked the way Roenick would have intended, as most fans see him as simply being bitter that a young star focused on the game at hand, rather than needing to deal with former stars that simply want attention.
Roenick's accusations got worse however, as he would go on to claim that Bedard is a poor leader because of this, with absolutely no one in the Blackhawks locker room complaining about the leadership of a 19-year old.
I'm not ripping on him in terms of his personality or anything like that. If he's going to be the captain of this team, there is a lot of things that he has to think about in terms of being that leader, being that captain, and unfortunately he dropped the ball.
Ultimately, this is just another bitter former star taking a shot at Bedard for absolutely no reason, and to suggest that this interaction would somehow effect his future as a leadership is ridiculous, with everyone in Chicago firmly believing in Bedard moving forward.
