NHL Star Goalie Willing to Waive No Movement Clause to Join Stanley Cup Contending Team: Per Pierre Lebrun
The Anaheim Ducks' veteran goaltender John Gibson has been linked to one of the top Canadian teams by insider Pierre LeBrun ahead of the trade deadline.
Gibson has been included in plenty of trade rumors over the past few years, mainly due to the fact that he has been playing for a struggling franchise that hasn't made the playoffs since 2018.
One team that keeps surfacing in trade speculation is the Edmonton Oilers. For years, goaltending has been a weak spot for Connor McDavid's team, especially with the struggles of Jack Campbell.
In a new article for The Athletic, Pierre LeBrun revealed that Gibson would even be willing to waive his no-trade clause to join the Oilers.
However, he also noted that with the way Oilers goaltenders Calvin Pickard and Stuart Skinner have been performing this season, general manager Stan Bowman doesn't appear to see goaltending as an issue.
Here's what LeBrun wrote:
"I do believe John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks would waive his no-trade clause to go to Edmonton. So there's that. But it sure doesn't sound like Bowman sees goaltending as an area of concern."
To reinforce his point, he included a quote from Bowman about the Oilers' goaltending situation and why he believes it has been a key factor in the team's recent success:
"Our goalies have been great (since November). Calvin Pickard is 10-1 in his last 11 games. And Skinner's been excellent, too. Based on the performance of the team and their performance individually, they've done a really good job for us.
So, I'm not sure where that comes from. We certainly believe in both of them, and we think they've been a big part of why our team has been so consistent over the last several months here."
