A legendary head coach of the NFL, once with the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills has passed away. Dick Jauron was 74 years old.

Former Chicago Bears and Chicago Bears head coach Dick Jauron has sadly died at the age of 74 after a brief bout with cancer, the Bills announced on Saturday.

Jauron led the Bears from 1999 to 2003 and won the AP Coach of the Year award after Chicago went 13-3 and also won the NFC Central title.

He didn't have a winning record in his final two seasons with the Bears, and he was fired just after the 2003 season and was replaced by Lovie Smith.

Jauron was the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions back in 2004 and took over on an interim basis in 2005 when the team let go of Steve Mariucci.

Jauron was hired as head coach by the Bills in 2006 but he never led them to the playoffs. He was unfortunately fired mid-season in 2009.

Dick Jauron was an NFL coach for 10 seasons

He has compiled a 60-82 record as an NFL head coach in his 10 seasons as the man in charge. The last stop in the NFL for Jauron was as defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns from 2011-2012.

As a player, Jauron spent eight seasons as a defensive back for the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals, earning Pro Bowl honors in 1974 before retiring after the 1980 season with 25 interceptions.

We would like to take this time to extend our deepest condolences to the entire Jauron family and to all of Dick's friends who have been affected by this terrible situation. Our prayers are with you all.
