Adrian Kempe plays the game of hockey very hard, but on Monday, he made a dirty play on Connor McDavid, and now the Kings star is paying for it as he has been handed a massive fine by the NHL's Department of Player Safety.

The Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings played a thrilling 1-0 game on Monday night, and given the competitive rivalry between the two Pacific Division teams, there was plenty of drama involved in the game too.

However, one of the most shocking plays involved Adrian Kempe and Connor McDavid, with the veteran Kings forward giving McDavid one of the most blatant slew-foot's we've ever seen in the NHL.

In shocking fashion, the officials somehow didn't see the play and called no penalty on it, although the league decided to look into it, as TSN's Darren Dreger predicted that a fine would be coming as a result.

Now, they have made it official, handing down a $5,000 fine to Kempe as a result of the play, with many believing a suspension could have also been on the cards given how likely a potential injury was for No. 97 on the incredibly dangerous and unnecessary play.

While it's always a good idea for players in the NHL to play hard and intimidate their opponents with physical play, Kempe took it way too far here, as he put arguably the game's biggest star in danger of a serious injury.

Ultimately though, no one came out of it injured and Kempe was handed the largest fine possible under the current CBA for the play, and with these two teams potentially slated to face off in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2025 after doing so for the past three seasons, it's safe to say that the Oilers will remember this play very well.
