The Devils lost forward Jack Hughes to injury against the Vegas Golden Knights this weekend, and there's a chance that he could miss significant time.

This is not the news that fans of the New Jersey Devils were hoping to hear.

Top forward and assistant captain Jack Hughes, who was hurt during this weekend's game against the Vegas Golden Knights, could potentially miss significant time while rehabilitating the injury and could even elect to undergo surgery.

According to the latest update from ESPN's Emily Kaplan, Hughes won't be back any time soon for the Devils and is in the process of deciding whether or not to undergo surgery.

Emilym kaplan on ESPN+ pregame: NJ Devils Jack Hughes is gonna be out for a bit, and what I was told is that he's deciding whether he needs to get surgery or not, which will dictate the timeline.

Hughes was tied up with Vegas forward Jack Eichel and fell awkwardly into the boards, bearing the majority of the impact.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe explained that the entire Devils roster was feeling for Hughes in his absence, but that the work must still continue.

The whole group was feeling for him. Injuries are part of the game, but the nature of it makes it tougher. We'll see how things go here. I think the players with a day off came in today with a fresh mind. They have a job to do.

The Devils currently occupy the 3rd spot in the Metropolitan Division, only a pair of points behind the 2nd place Carolina Hurricanes.

So far this year, Hughes has 70 points (27G, 43A) and has already struggled with injury concerns in his career.
