For much of the 2024/25 season, the Tampa Bay Lightning have been rolling with their veteran core leading the way, although they've waived several intriguing young players in the process.
On Tuesday, they made it official once more by waiving a former No. 11 overall draft pick in Logan Brown, who was yet to play a game for the team this season after joining them this past off-season.
The 26-year old was picked at No. 11 way back in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators, but managed to play in just 26 games for the team across three seasons, and since then he's bounced between the NHL and the AHL with the St. Louis Blues.
It's now more likely than not that he'll head back to the AHL once more with the Syracuse Crunch this season if he can clear waivers, with the talented forward yet to get in a game with the Lightning this season.
With the Crunch however he's been fairly solid, tallying 7 goals and 19 points thus far in 25 games played, so while his game may not translate well to the NHL, he's clearly got the talent enough to produce consistently at the AHL level, as he had 19 points in 21 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds over the last two seasons.
Unfortunately, it appears as though Brown simply doesn't have a future at the NHL level at this point in time, but if he can continue producing well in the AHL, there's no doubt another NHL team out there that will give him a shot to take the jump to the next level while he's still relatively young.
