Veteran defenseman Jacob Trouba made his Anaheim Ducks debut last night as he had been traded from the New York Rangers on Friday.
Larry Brooks joined today's 'Spittin' Chiclets' podcast with the rest of the Rangers reporters and called him "detached" from the team, with all the trade talk.
Irreconcilable is a good word to describe it, Brooks said, and that it literally was no longer possible for the Rangers to keep him.
In the end, the deal sent Jacob Trouba to the Ducks in exchange for Urho Vaakanainen and a fourth-round pick as Rangers GM Chris Drury wanted to avoid waiving him.
Apparently, the Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, and Columbus Blue Jackets all had interest in his services, but Trouba utilized his no-trade clause to get himself moved to the Ducks.
Interestingly, Toronto still covets him and could circle back closer to the trade deadline in March. However, the rumor is he has all seven Canadian teams on his no-trade list.
On the '32 Thoughts' podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman had another bombshell: Cam Fowler was indeed part of the deal going to New York before it fell apart as the Rangers got queasy on the salary cap implications.
Cam Fowler has suffered through some godawful years from the Ducks and hasn't played in the playoffs since 2017. With a $6.5 million cap hit continuing through next season, his falling play has made him tough to move on the trade market.
While the Rangers didn't snag Fowler, one can't help but wonder what he might have done to rejuvenate the season of a playoff contender.
