1 player charged and New York Rangers prospect being investigated after brawl which left teen 'bloodied and with a fractured jaw'
It's not the news that the New York Rangers or Team Slovakia hoped to receive two weeks before the World Juniors tournament is set to begin. Today it was announced that Rangers' draft pick Adam Sykora is being investigated by police after a brawl during a school sporting event. The brawl left one teen badly injured and the spotlight on Sykora.
The incident reportedly occured during a high school floorball (floor hockey) tournament. After Sykora was fouled he allegedly grabbed another player by the throat leading to a wild brawl.
Slovak news outlet Pravda provided the following information:
Translated into English:
At the end of the match against Zlat Moravci, one of the visiting team should have fouled Skora. The conflict escalated into a brawl involving several players. After the fight, a Zlat Moraviec player was left lying on the ground covered in blood, and ended up in the hospital with a fractured jaw.
"So, as a person who was there and watched it from the stands, it was caused by a tackle on Skora, which was on the verge of a foul, even though as a floorball player I would not consider it a foul. After this tackle, Adam Skora ran after the guy, what's wrong with him he did and grabbed him by the neck.
Subsequently, the other players of Nitra also ran into the fight and started fighting there, and then almost everyone fought. There is an injured player from Zlaty Moraviec who Molnár totally beat with his fists," reads one of the reactions on Twitter.
This is considered an open police matter at this time, and very few additional details have been provided.
Sykora was drafted in the 2nd round of last summer's NHL Draft and is expected to be a huge piece for the Rangers in the future. There is no information available on how this will impact Sykora's World Juniors availability.
