3-time Stanley Cup Champion attempting to come out of retirement
Approximately 15 months after announcing his retirement from the game of hockey it appears that Niklas Hjalmarsson is preparing to make a comeback. Hjalmarsson won 3 Stanley Cups as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks before his retirement.
Hjalmarsson announced this week his plans to join HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League. He plans on beginning training with the team this Monday.
There have always been thoughts of playing in HV71 again and the desire has become even greater when I have been to the matches and felt the atmosphere in the arena. I drive by Husqvarna Garden every day and think about what it would have been like to play in HV71and I really want to give this a chance or I will regret it in the future.
I have great respect for the SHL as a league and now I will start training with the team to feel what I stand for. Then whether it will be two weeks, a year or three years, the future will tell. But I'm incredibly excited for hockey again and it will be great fun to come to Husqvarna Garden on Monday and meet everyone. Hjalmarsson, now 35, player 14 season in the NHL playing for the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes. He scored 25 goals and added 147 assists in 821 games. Hjalmarsson won the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
We wish Hjalmarsson the best in his attempted return.
