Alex Ovechkin scores another incredible goal, ties Gordie Howe for an all-time record
As Alex Ovechkin continues to score goals, he continues to reach incredible achievements. Last night versus Detroit, Alex netted his sixth goal of the season. It was a typical Ovechkin goal where he stands at the top of the faceoff circle. In this instance, the pass was in his skates. He quickly kicked the puck up to his stick and shot the puck in the top corner past goalie Ville Husso.
With his latest goal, Alex ties Gordie Howe for the most goals with one franchise. Alex has spent his entire career with the Capitals and that probably is not going to change. Ovechkin sits at seven hundred eighty six career goals. He is just five career goals behind Gordie Howe for second all time and one hundred eight goals behind Wayne Gretzky for number one all-time.
In today's NHL with so much speed and skill it is remarkable what Alex Ovechkin is accomplishing. He will certainly pass Gordie Howe this year for second all time in goal scoring and you know Ovechkin has Gretzky's record in his sights. Alex knows he has the opportunity to become the greatest goal scorer in National Hockey League history. Can he continue his scoring ability and stay healthy? It sure seems like he can.
Ovechkin met Gordie's son Mark after the game who congratulated him on his latest achievement and wished him luck in the future. A class act by Howe.
