An Eastern Conference captain is finally healthy after years of injuries
The Columbus Blue Jackets off-season has been great, from the draft to acquiring Johnny Gaudreau in free agency. The Blue Jackets will also have their captain Boone Jenner back in time for training camp as well.
Jenner has been out dealing with a back injury since the March 11th game against the Minnesota Wild last season.
The captain's been reserved about his injury all the while, however, with training camp starting soon he let Jackets fans know how he's feeling:
«I'm feeling good, ready to go, absolutely,» Jenner said when asked specifically about his back.
I came back (this summer) and started training, tried to get to 100 percent. After the way the year ended, the thought was just to get healthy and then take it from there. I've been doing that all summer, skating and working out. I'm happy where I am right now.»
Jenner is no stranger to back issues, missing time in 2015 and 2017 with back problems then.
He was at the tail end of a career year, putting up 23 goals and 21 assists, for 44 points in 59 games, which is close to a point-per-game pace.
Who'd have known how it'd have ended if didn't suffer through the back injury?
Jenner looks to make the most out of training and go into the season playing big minutes and winning face-offs, as he did last season, playing 1st line centre.
With additions like Johnny Gaudreau, I wouldn't put it past Brad Larsen to put them on the same line and maximize production this season.
