Anaheim already boasts a roster of some super young talent players such as: Trevor Zegras, Jamie Drysdale, Troy Terry, and Mason McTavish. The future looks bright for this organization. Good for Anaheim for not putting the young guns under too much pressure, or giving them too much responsibility early in their careers. This provides the youngsters an opportunity to go out and play the game and develop at the NHL level. No secondary distractions this year, just focus on the season.
The Ducks also stated that there would be no contract negotiations during the season as well. As a result, guys like Zegras, Drysdale, and Terry will wait until the season is over to work on new contracts. All three players are in the final year of their three year entry-level contract. As key pieces of the teams future, all three will surely be re-signed by the organization once the season is over.
You have to like General Manager, Pat Verbeek's approach here. He is letting his young group focus on the upcoming season and continuing to work at becoming more established NHL players in the league. It is unlikely the Ducks are cup contenders so this seems like a shrewd move by the Ducks organization. But could it cost them financially in the long run?
