I've seen a somewhat concerning trend this off-season. Now maybe it's happened a lot over the years, but this year especially a lot of North American players are heading across the pond to play in the KHL among other leagues. The most recent player to go overseas is Brandon Davidson of the Buffalo Sabres organization.

Davidson signed a two year deal with the Kunlun Red star and will get more of an opportunity to play there.

The 31 year old rear guard didn't play a single game in the NHL last year, instead spending the season with the Rochester Americans of the AHL collecting 1 goal and 5 assists for 6 points in 23 games played for the Americans last season. It's understandable that he would rather go to a league where he's guaranteed more playing time, however, I find it alarming how many players are choosing to go to the KHL this off-season.

No doubt some of the decisions are money based, but it also begs the question, does Gary Bettman know what he's doing still forcing the NHL to play under a hard cap?
