The Columbus Blue Jackets need all the help they can get with Zach Werenski being injured. The team has run on the next-man-up idea since John Tortorella's day and with Brad Larsen in charge, it's no different.

Vladislav Gavikrov has been a net positive, on the ice-literally, and this maybe the best thing for the Blue Jackets right now.

Gavrikov who has been with the club since 2018-2019, will enter UFA territory at the end of the season.

It's been said that the Columbus Blue Jackets will try to extend the defenseman in the prime of his career.

There have been discussions regarding a new contract between Gavrikov's Agent Dan Milstein and the Blue Jackets, but the information hasn't been made public. However, Jarmo Kekäläinen can't afford to lose a linchpin like Gavrikov, who currently has an affordable cap hit and the team has the space right now to make it work.

Kekäläinen can't afford to draw out talks by March 3rd and lose the defenseman for nothing.
