The Colorado Avalanche broke a 21 year Stanley Cup drought last night. The Avalanche beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 to take Game 6 and the series. After the game, as is customary for coaches, they let the media in on who is injured, how badly and the timetable for their recovery.
This year, the player who persevered through a slew of serious injuries is forward Andre Burakovsky. According to Mike Chambers of the Denver Post, coach Jared Bednar confirmed Burakovsky broke his ankle during the Edmonton Oilers Western Conference Final series.
Along with a broken thumb and subsequent surgery, it's safe to say Burakovsky put forth a Herculean effort in order to contribute to his teams Stanley cup victory.
I'm happy for the Avs team as a whole, but Burakovsky deserves this one a little bit more for the pain he played through.
