Midway through the second overtime period, Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender, Casey DeSmith has left the game. DeSmith left the game after making 48 saves on 51 shots. It appeared DeSmith was limping heavily as he headed down the tunnel.
The Rangers have held the lead on three sperate occasions. Late in the 3rd period the Rangers thought they had taken the lead, but after a challenge the goal was reversed. On the play Kaapo Kakko crashed into DeSmith forcing him out of the goal crease.
With DeSmith leaving the game the Penguins are forced to call upon 3rd string goalie Louis Domingue. The Rangers tried to shoot early and often, but Domingue was up to the task making 14 saves to this point.
Elliotte Friedman has reportes the Pittsburgh Penguins will have emergency back up goaltender Reid Robertson dress if needed.
