The Montreal Canadiens are coming off one of their worst seasons in franchise history. They finished at the bottom of the NHL standings with 55 points. They were worse than the Phoenix Coyotes who were actively trying to tank. The Canadiens season was marred by injuries and players having some of their worst career years and goaltending was no exception.

Jake Allen had his worst season as a professional posting a 3.30 GAA and a 0.905 save %. But take these numbers with a grain of salt as no other goalie on the roster posted a save % higher than 0.895. Even Carey Price, who only managed to play 5 games, had a GAA of 3.63 with a 0.878 save %. Allen was by far the Canadiens only NHL calibre goaltender on their roster last season. That is why the team is working on an extension with the 32-year-old.

According to Kevin Weekes of the NHL Network, the Canadiens are looking to extend Allen for multiple years. With the uncertainty of Carey Price's career, it only makes sense to try and find some sort of consistency in net.

Allen currently carries a $2.875 million cap hit. I expect his next contract to come in at roughly the same number.
