Breaking News - NHL makes decision on Joel Quenneville's coaching future
The third round the playoffs began last night with only four teams remaining to fight for the holy grail of the NHL the Stanley Cup.
There is now more coaching vacancies in the NHL than teams remaining in the playoffs. Five head coaching jobs have already opened, the New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks are also looking for a new bench boss.
According to Darren Dreger, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will meet with Joel Quenneville as soon as the season ends to review his status.
Quenneville resigned as head coach of the Florida Panthers in the fall of 2021 during the teams' President's Trophy run. The details were revealed on how the Chicago Blackhawks mishandled allegations that a player was sexually abused by an assistant coach in 2010 during the team's run to the Stanley Cup that season. Quenneville was Chicago's head coach when the abuse occurred.
Bettman said last May that Quenneville had not approached him at that time about reinstatement into the league.
«There's nothing currently happening with Joel,» Bettman said. "And if and when there's a real conversation to be had, then I'll focus on it at the time.»
«I assume it'd be initiated by Joel, if and when he thinks it's the appropriate time and he feels that he's ready to come back and there's an opportunity,» he added of the process, «But again, I'll have to make an evaluation at that time.»
However today news leaked this afternoon that according to Greg Wyshyshsnki, Coach Q has not completed the reported required work to return to the NHL.
This likely ends Coach Q's entire coaching career if true.
