Today, the Montreal Canadiens announced plans to honour former defenceman PK Subban with a pre-game ceremony this January.
Subban began his career in dramatic fashion in Montreal. Drafted in the second round by the Habs in 2007, Subban made an immediate impact when he began his career in 2010.
On the ice, he was known for his physical presence and offensive prowess, marked with devastating body checks and massive slap shots. His personality shone with electric goal celebrations and handshakes with goaltender Carey Price.
Off the ice, Subban arguably made a bigger impact on the city of Montreal with his close partnership to Montreal Children's Hospital, even well after he had been traded by the Canadiens.
To Habs and hockey fans, Subban was revered as a player and a person. It's fitting that the Canadiens give him a proper send-off in his first year of retirement, although it won't be surprising to see him on any major TV network soon.
