The San Jose Sharks and Evgeny Svechnikov have agreed to terms on a one-year two way deal worth $750,000 at the NHL level and $350,000 if he plays for the Sharks AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.

Svechnikov, had 19 points in 72 games for Winnipeg last season but became an unrestricted free agent after the Jets did not issue a qualifying offer.

The 25-year-old, was selected 19th overall in the 2015 National Hockey League draft by the Detroit Red Wings. Svechnikov spent four seasons with the Red Wings organization before signing a two-way contract with the Winnipeg Jets in 2021 as a free agent.

Evgeny is the older brother of Hurricanes' point producer Andrei Svechnikov. Evgeny doesn't have the same skillset as his little brother and injuries have effected his long term potential. They both put up solid numbers in the OHL but it's the younger brother who went on to have the more successful career. Andrei earned himself security, signing an 8 year, $62 million dollar contract last offseason.
