Sidney Crosby has been the cornerstone of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise since the day he was drafted 1st overall in 2005. Is it possible he'll ever leave the Steel City?
Well according to the Twitter account Hockey Insiderr, Crosby might be looking to play for this Canadian team as his career winds down after his current penguins deal expires in 2025
BREAKING_NEWS according to source close to Sidney Crosby , the #pens captain would «love to finish his career with the Montréal #canadiens «. Sid is under contract for 3 more years with Pittsburgh and will be 38 when it expires.
According to the same source , Sid is looking to play into his 40s. He will be looking for a 2 or 3 year deal with the #habs in 2025. According to the same source , "Sid wants to be part of what he believes is a special rebuild for the #canadiens franchise"
Crosby to the Montreal Canadiens? That doesn't sound right. Now let me preface this by saying a couple of different things: 1) Crosby has stated that once his current contract with the Penguins expires, he intends to retire and 2) if he were to leave Pittsburgh I highly doubt it would be to go to a rebuilding team
But for arguments sake, let's say this is a real report, a few things would have to happen in my mind, Montreal would have to be a bonafide Stanley Cup contender by the time the 2025-26 NHL season rolls around and they would have to be wizards when it comes to how they work the salary cap.
As for Crosby donning another jersey? It'll be weird, but I'm behind the idea. Especially because that was his childhood team and who wouldn't want to play for an original 6 squad at least once In their career. The Canadians are in a hockey crazed market, if one of the best players ever goes to play there it'll be good for the game.
