The 2024/25 campaign has been a tough one for Elias Pettersson, as he has been involved in a public feud with J.T. Miller that even caused General Manager Patrik Allvin to publicly call him out.
Now, a story from The Hockey News has revealed why his mind has likely been preoccupied as of late, as it details the story of a real estate scam that Elias and his farther Torbjorn have been involved in.
The two were set to buy a $2.4 million (USD) property in Sweden, but after putting down a 10% deposit, it became very clear to both that this wasn't all it was cracked up to be, according to his father.
Thankfully, it appears as though the two were able to get out of the deal by suing the real estate agent involved in the scam, who will now be spending the next six years in prison after the fraudulent practices, but it means they won't be able to get back that deposit.
The 26-year old Pettersson makes just under $12 million per season, so while a measly $250,000 won't hurt him too much, it's never a good thing to hear of players being scammed.
Ultimately though, the person in charge of the scam was caught, so that's great news for Pettersson and other big names in Sweden, but it just goes to show that nobodies money is safe at some points, no matter how rich and famous you are.
