There have been many ups and downs in the past month when it comes to the situation in Pittsburgh, as they attempt to keep their core together for one last ride. But now it seems the core will ride together for a few more years.
Evgeni Malkin was the last piece for the Pittsburgh Penguins to re-sign and finalize a contract with. After locking up Kris Letang for 6 years, the Penguins are bringing back Malkin for 4 more years.
With a cap hit of $6.1 Million per season Malkin will be the second highest paid forward on the team.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have now locked up their cup winning core for a lot longer than most teams would. Sidney Crosby is signed until he is 37-years-old, Evgeni Malkin until he is 39-years-old and Kris Letang will be 41-years-old when his contract expires. There will be a lot of grey in those playoff beards.
It has been reported that Malkin was planning on testing free agency after not receiving a 4 year offer. This move likely makes Naze Kadri a much richer man as he will have very little competition on the free agent market.
