Brendan Shanahan told Kyle Dubas his job is on the line
Kyle Dubas has been the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs for 4 years. In those 4 years the Leafs have made the playoffs every year and set franchise records in points last year. But even that wasn't enough to get Kyle Dubas an extension.
As training camps begin today Kyle Dubas was available to the media and he made a surprising confession about a conversation he had with Team President Brendan Shanahan.
Dubas says he was informed by Brendan Shanahan this summer that no extension was coming at this point in time. Which again, the Leafs GM insists he's ok with given the fact they haven't delivered yet in the playoffs. He's comfortable being judged after this season.
According to Shanny this season will singlehandedly determine the future of Kyle Dubas. With Dubas doubling down on the Core Four and also betting on Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov in goal, this season likely will have a lot riding on it. It will be interesting to see how Dubas handles the trade deadline knowing his job could be on the line.
