Cale Makar closing in on breaking an all-time record
It is well known in the hockey community how great Cale Makar is. He's only twenty three and he has already put up some incredible accomplishments. For example, has already won the Calder Trophy as best rookie. Last year was a phenomenal year for Makar. He won Norris Trophy as best defenseman and the Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoff MVP and his team won the Stanley Cup. Last year for Colorado he recorded twenty eight goals and fifty eight assists for eighty six points during the regular season. Is there anything this superstar can't do ? It sure doesn't seem like it. He has quite a career in front of him.
Makar's skating ability is elite allowing him to get involved offensively. Today he is one of the games brightest stars. How thrilled Colorado has the luxury of having him. The Avalanche look to be cup contenders for years to come.
Here is another stat that some might not know about Makar and how uber talented he is. This is really quite astonishing. If Cale Makar can rack up just twenty points in his first twenty eight games of the season he will be the fastest defenseman ever to reach two hundred career points and he would have done this in two hundred and six career games. Let that sink in for a moment. In NHL history no other defender has ever recorded two hundred points as quickly as Makar has. Not Bobby Orr, Denis Potvin, Ray Bourque, Al MacInnis, Paul Coffey or Brian Leetch to name just a few. By the way, the record holder for defenseman is Sergei Zubov with two hundred points in two hundred seven career games. Makar is clear next level when it comes to elite defenseman. He could continue to destroy records set by defenseman if he stays healthy and continues to skate circles around everyone. Oh yeah, twenty points in twenty eight games is totally within Makar's reach.
Clearly the skies the limit for Makar. What will he do this upcoming season ? Could he hit one hundred points in a season? It's certainly possible. Now matter what Makar does this season or next it is a joy to watch him play. Let's hope he stays healthy and continues to have an outstanding career.
