Carey Price makes a fans dreams come true as she battles cancer
Carey Price is one of the most beloved Montreal Canadiens of the last 20 years. The goaltender won the hearts of Canadiens' fans and people across the country. Price, who was born in Anahim Lake, British Columbia, is a proud member of the Ulkatcho First Nation.
Throughout his career he has made a point to give back to the Indigenous community however he could. This week Carey continued that process as he reached out to a Cree woman who'd been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. According to CBC, Shirley Wischee Moar was diagnosed with cancer in January.
Shirley Wischee Moar found out in early January that headaches she's been experiencing are being caused by brain tumours. She is still undergoing surgeries, and will need to go through radiation and chemotherapy.
Price took 10 minutes out of his day to video chat with Shirley, something her daughter said brought her mother immense happiness and calm.
"Her blood pressure was going up sometimes. I think she was worried about stuff. And when she spoke to Carey Price, everything just went back to normal," said Jennica.
But, Price's main message to Shirley was a simple one, "keep fighting."
Throughout their call Carey and Shirley spoke about his approach to being a role model to young Indigenous youth, and how he has positively contributed towards their development. This continues to show the type of person Price is and continues to be.
