Over the last two years the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians have both changed their team names after pressure to remove their logos and change their team names. With many groups claiming these logos and teammates were insensitive and racist, the teams changed their names to the Guardians and Commanders respectively.

The last remaining offensive name in sports according to fans is the Chicago Blackhawks. Now Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz has come out and shared he has no plans on changing either and doesn't see a reason to either.

Despite facing some criticism in the past, the Blackhawks are standing strong behind their logo, refusing to change as "there's absolutely no need to."

The Blackhawks plan to continue to develop relationships and continuously work with Indigenous communities, as well as educating the public on their history.

Major Frederic McLaughlin, founder of the franchise, named his team the "Blackhawks" after the US Army unit he served in during World War One, the 86th Infantry Division, also known as the Black Hawk Division. The unit was named after Black Hawk, the Sauk leader of the eponymous Black Hawk War of 1832.

With so much social pressure it's rare to see an owner not give into the pressure. But Wirtz has never been one to go along with social convention and continues to be unapologetically himself.
