New York Rangers bring back former top college free agent on a professional tryout
The New York Rangers have brought back a familiar face in Jimmy Vesey. The forward has signed a Professional Tryout (PTO) deal and will be at training camp to fight for a roster spot.
In New York, Vesey quickly became a depth scorer, recording 50 goals and 40 assists in 240 games over three seasons. Vesey was traded to the Buffalo Sabres during the 2019 offseason and his game hasn't been the same since. He has been a revolving suitcase with stops in Toronto, Vancouver and New Jersey. Never being able to carve a role on a team.
During the 2021-2022 with the New Jersey Devils, Vesey scored eight goals and seven assists in 68 games while averaging 14:25 per night.
Being back where his NHL career started, could be what Vesey needs to get his game back on track and maybe get a chance to put the suitcase away for a little awhile. Vesey was initially signed by the Rangers as a highly coveted College Free Agent, but he never panned out the way teams had hoped.
